Arts and Crafts, Dance, Music and Performing Arts
At Brookhaven creative and inventive expression is an important part of camp. Whether designing rockets for liftoff, sand sculptures, their own tie-dye tee shirt, ceramic bowls or the many other exciting projects, our campers develop new interests and many skills where they can showcase their talents. Through our arts programs we are able to encourage self-expression in these activities that can be brought home as mementos to cherish as wonderful memories of past summers.
Dance and Drama
Singing, dancing and performing are an integral part of our program. Specialized counselors will give instruction, which will enhance self-expression, muscular coordination and an appreciation of the arts while bringing out each camper’s creative potential. Our programs allow campers to expand horizons and uncover new talents.
Senior campers, 4th grade and older can perform their way into one or both of our musical productions during the summer. Additionally, we have two dance shows and two gymnastics shows at the conclusion of each four-week session.
Parents are always invited to see campers perform during special show time programs.
Whether it's instructional swim or free swim, campers are constantly under the supervision and watchful eyes of experienced instructors and lifeguards, all of whom are certified by the American Red Cross. This ensures that lifetime skills are taught and put into practice at Brookhaven. Our program offers basic water safety skills, stroke development, FUN and love for the water. Our swim staff, with their vast experience, is capable of designing specific programs for each age group assigned to them. Specific attention is given to the needs and ability level of each camper.
Our staff is continually evaluating our campers’ progress, skills, and ability. This evaluation process ensures proper camper placement and appropriate swim levels.
ALL ABOUT SPORTS
If it’s sports you want, then it’s Brookhaven you need. It doesn’t matter the age, ability or level of play because at Brookhaven each camper will achieve success in our developmentally appropriate program through participation, learning and FUN. Every camper is exposed to many sports and athletic skills as well as games that are "JUST FOR FUN". Campers of all ages participate with appropriately sized equipment and play on appropriate sized fields.
Our sports specialists, under the supervision of our Athletic Director, encourage the importance of participation while developing individual growth and downplaying competition. More importantly these specialists not only instruct, but they instill the value of teamwork and the true meaning of sportsmanship.

NATURE AND BOATING
The exciting world of nature surrounds us at Brookhaven. The pristine setting at BCDC is completed by its location on the mile long lower lake of Yaphank and the natural beauty surrounding it, inhabited with ducks, swans, fish, frogs, turtles and other wildlife. Our numerous nature trails with its historical Native American background allow every child to explore and discover. Our campers are exposed to this unparalleled nature program that introduces them to the fascinating world of discovery. Brookhaven’s nature specialist will utilize these many discoveries as part of numerous inventive projects and studies as well as providing hands-on teaching in the care and handling of the many animals in our petting zoo which includes; bunnies, donkeys, sheep, goats, chickens, piglets and much more
Our beautiful lake, part of Carman’s River, offers row boating, kayaking, and paddle boating, in a setting that has the feel of being upstate. Swans, ducks, turtles, fish, and a variety of natural vegetation help make our campers’ lake experiences second to none.
